Spillcon is held every three years to provide an avenue for environmental and shipping organisations to learn from industry experts and enhance their preparedness and response to oil spill incidents.
More than 500 representatives from Australian and international environmental and shipping organisations are attending this year's conference, which continues until Friday.
The display will be held at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal from 3.15pm and will demonstrate Australia's capability to respond to marine environmental incidents.
It will include a hazardous material response using a helicopter, the simulated application of dispersant from two aircraft, and deployment of Australia’s new oil spill equipment, including dispersant spray systems, skimmers and oil containment boom.
AMSA's emergency towage vessel Pacific Responder and search and rescue aircraft will also play a role in the demonstration, which will be conducted by personnel from AMSA, the Australian Marine Oil Spill Centre, the National Response Team and Oil Industry Core Group.

Practice runs of the demonstration will also be held from 9am on Thursday, 11 April for those media outlets who require vision or photographs earlier than 3pm. Please note these practice runs will not feature the aircraft component of the demonstration.
