Upward trend in float-free EPIRB registrations in July

Tuesday 11 August 2020
There has been a 30 per cent increase in float-free EPIRB registrations in July.

This increase indicates that the commercial vessel industry is gearing up for 1 January 2021, when new laws around EPIRB carriage on domestic commercial vessels take effect.

This upward trend in float-free EPIRB registrations is encouraging, given that less than five months remain before the new requirements come into play.

We strongly encourage those affected by the new laws to purchase and register their float-free EPIRB as soon as possible.

To maximise the effectiveness of your float-free EPIRB, make sure it is GPS enabled and registered with AMSA.

A number of brands are on the market and the GPS-enabled float-free EPIRBs provide the quickest and most accurate alerts.

Registering your float-free EPIRB also provides rescue services with key information so they can tailor the rescue operation to your circumstances.
