About

NSCV C2 provides the design, construction, installation and maintenance standards for

  1. watertight and weathertight integrity;
  2. rapid drainage of water from decks;
  3. reserve buoyancy; and
  4. prevention of overloading.
Announcement

This Section of the National Standards for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) was developed following a review of the Uniform Shipping Laws (USL) Code Section 5C Watertight subdivision of passenger vessels, Section 5D Watertight subdivision of Class 2 and Class 3 vessels and Section 7 Load lines. This is the final USL Code design and construction standard to be modernised and replaced by the NSCV.

Compliance with this NSCV C2 is voluntary for construction of new vessels for 24 months from date of commencement. See GES 2022/1.

Before 1 January 2025 we will allow vessels to comply with either NSCV section C2 or the USL Code sections 5C, 5D and 7 (see link below).

From 1 January 2025, compliance with NSCV section C2 is mandatory for domestic commercial vessels which enter commercial service for the first time after that date.
