Private seafarer recruitment and placement services

Private seafarer recruitment and placement services who are based in Australia must register with us before they begin:

• providing seafarers to Australian vessels
• providing seafarers to foreign flagged vessels.

If you are a regulated Australian vessel, or a foreign flagged vessel in an Australian port and you intend to use private seafarer recruitment and placement services, you must make sure the service is operated in accordance with Regulation 1.4 of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 and Marine Order 11 (Living and working conditions on vessels) 2015.

Once registered with us, the names of successful applicants will be published in the register below. This provides evidence that we have approved and registered the company, and it meets the requirements of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 and Marine Order 11 (Living and working conditions on vessels) 2015. Once registered, companies may be subject to audit and inspection. 

We will also recognise registered seafarer recruitment and placement services from member countries that have ratified the Maritime Labour Convention 2006.
