AMSA seeks public assistance in search for missing aircraft

AMSA’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia) is coordinating a search for an overdue light aircraft in the Wentworth, NSW—Mildura, VIC area.

The aircraft departed Wentworth Airfield in south western New South Wales mid-morning on Monday 28 May 2012. The aircraft was not reported overdue to Police until mid-afternoon on Tuesday.

The aircraft has not been heard from since and significant concerns are held for the safety of its pilot.

The aircraft is believed to have been conducting a local flight. Search aircraft and a rescue helicopter with thermal imaging and night vision equipment have undertaken an initial search of the area.

A widespread search involving multiple fixed wing aircraft and helicopters will commence from first light on Wednesday morning.

Persons with information about a light aircraft operating within 100km of Mildura between 9:30AM and 1:30PM on Monday 28 May, are requested to contact the Rescue Coordination Centre on 1800 815 257.
