Out now! Maritime Safety Awareness Bulletin issue 16—planned maintenance

Tuesday 4 October 2022
The latest issue of the Maritime Safety Awareness Bulletin focuses on the planned maintenance of vessels.
Safety inspection

Nearly three quarters of all marine incident reports between 2019 and 2021 involved deficiencies or failures with onboard equipment, systems, or structure. Focused inspections during 2022 continued to highlight systemic problems with vessel maintenance.

The effective and regular maintenance of a vessel will result in fewer machinery failures and breakdowns, minimising operational delays and serious incidents.

We recently published a Marine Notice 2022/10 Planned Maintenance on ships, emphasising the importance of planned maintenance in ensuring safe operation of ships and highlighting our increased focus on planned maintenance during port State control inspections.
