From 27 February to 3 March 2023, Australia and its Pacific partners are meeting in Cairns for the 9th Pacific Search and Rescue (PACSAR) conference and 3rd Pacific Women in Maritime (PacWIMA) conference. It is the first time these conferences have been held in person since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

AMSA is proud to host these concurrent conferences and provide opportunities for collaboration and connection in relation to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) gender equity goals, as well as to promote excellence in search and rescue in the region.

These conferences highlight Australia’s leadership and active participation in the Pacific, and global, maritime communities. Our participation in the PacWIMA conference highlights Australia’s commitment to furthering the goals of the IMO in relation to gender equity, with a specific focus on developing opportunities for participation by women from the Pacific region. The PACSAR workshop is an important chance to share knowledge and skills among Pacific search and rescue organisations to meet AMSA’s mission of safe, clean seas, saving lives.

We look forward to the progress that is enabled by face-to-face discussion, and to welcoming our Pacific partner nations to Cairns.
