Search for missing aircraft concluded

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has concluded the search for an overdue aircraft which left Moruya in NSW for Mangalore in Victoria on Wednesday morning 23 October 2013.

At 8:40am Thursday one of the rescue helicopters located the wreckage of the plane approximately 20 kilometres west of Mount Hotham.

The deceased pilot was located a short time later.

The incident has now been passed to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau which will investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Over the course of the search there were eight helicopters and two fixed wing aircraft involved.

AMSA would like to thank government agencies and private aircraft involved in the search effort.
