In Australia, domestic commercial vessels are regulated under the National System for Domestic Commercial Vessel Safety (the national system).

If you have a vessel and use it for any commercial, governmental or research activity, then you need to meet the safety standards and requirements as set out under marine safety laws.

These requirements will depend on your vessel, your type of operation and area of operation.

Before you begin operating your vessel commercially, safety requirements for your vessel, your operations and your crew must be in place (unless you are exempt).
