Offshore renewable energy infrastructure policy

This policy provides guidance to developers on how to ensure safe navigation in and around offshore renewable energy infrastructure (OREI).

Notify us: If you’re developing OREI, contact AMSA in the project planning stage so we can advise on how to reduce navigation risks:

What is offshore renewable energy infrastructure?

OREI includes:

  • wind farms
  • devices that generate electricity from wave, tide or current action.

OREI sites can be very large in area and near busy shipping traffic lanes.

How to manage navigation risks

This policy explains how to address navigation risks around OREI sites by meeting requirements for:

  • lighting and marking
  • nearby search and rescue and other emergency response operators near ships.
