Proposed changes to helicopter operations on vessels: Marine Order 57 consultation

We sought feedback on proposed changes to Marine Order 57 (Helicopter operations). The proposed updates will ensure the marine order remains current and gives effect to new international requirements.

This consultation closed on 4 May 2026

About the changes

Marine Order 57 (Helicopter operations) 2016 (MO57) provides for safe vessel to helicopter operations, particularly transfer of persons and goods between a vessel and a helicopter.

The current MO57 is due to sunset on 1 October 2026 and will need to be replaced.

MO57 gives effect to the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) Guide to Helicopter/Ship Operations, which has recently been updated. The reissued MO57 will give effect to the new edition.

This is a full review of MO57 and the first since it was introduced in 2016.
