Set up your myAMSA account

To use myAMSA, you need a myID Digital ID and a myAMSA account. Find out what you need to get started and how to set up your account.

What you need

To set up and access your myAMSA account, you’ll need:

  • a myID Digital ID with at least a Standard identity strength
  • your AMSA ID (if you already have one, otherwise you will get one when you create your account)
  • your personal details, such as your name and contact information.

You do not need to upload documents to create your account, but you can upload them to your profile to help you prepare for an application.

How to create your account

Follow these steps to create your myAMSA account

Step 1: Get a myID Digital ID

To use myAMSA, you need a myID Digital ID.

Your myID must have at least a Standard identity strength.

myID is the Australian Government’s secure digital ID app for proving who you are online. You can set it up using Australian identity documents, such as your driver’s licence or passport.

If you do not already have myID, set it up before you try to sign in to myAMSA.

If you cannot set up myID, you will not be able to use myAMSA.

You can still submit your application at Australia Post using the applicable seafarer form for your certificate.

Step 3: Create your myAMSA account

After you sign in with myID, we'll check if you already have an AMSA ID.

Note: An AMSA ID is different from a Seafarer ID.

If you already have an AMSA ID

You’ll be asked to enter your AMSA ID to link your account.

You may already have an AMSA ID if you:

  • hold a near-coastal certificate of competency (your AMSA ID is printed on front)
  • have contacted AMSA before.

Can't find your AMSA ID or not sure if you have one?
If you can't find your AMSA ID, contact AMSA Connect.

If you don’t have an AMSA ID

You'll be guided through creating your myAMSA account by entering your details.

Once your account is created, we’ll generate an AMSA ID for you.

Step 4: Add supporting documents to your account (optional)

You can upload documents to your myAMSA account before you start an application.

This step is optional, but it makes it easier to prepare for future applications and keep your documents in one place.

You can upload documents such as:

  • medical fitness certificates
  • course completion certificates
  • evidence of sea service
  • copies of any relevant licences
  • your passport-style photograph (near coastal only).

You do not need to upload any other proof of identity documents to your account.

Attaching documents to your application
Uploading documents to your account does not automatically attach them to an application.
When you apply for something, you will still need to link or attach the documents from your account to your application before you submit.

Step 5: Start an application

Once your account is set up, you can log in to myAMSA and start an application when you’re ready.

To apply:

  1. sign in to your myAMSA account
  2. select the certificate or service you want to apply for
  3. upload or link your supporting documents
  4. complete the application
  5. pay the application fee, if required
  6. submit your application
  7. track your status.

You can save your application and return to it later.
