Pathways to certificates of competency

You may be able work under an exemption as a stepping stone before getting your certificate.

Sea rangers
Find out if you're eligible for exemption 14. This exemption allows you to master a vessel without the certificate that's usually required. If you are eligible, apply using form 618.

Traditional inhabitant fishers
Find out if you're eligible for exemption 16. This exemption allows you to master a vessel without the certificate that's usually required.

Crew working in the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait zone
