We have released new resources for candidates sitting an oral examination.

The exam is part of the final assessment before you can receive some certificates of competency (CoC). It assesses how you apply your knowledge, judgement and decision-making to situations you may face at sea.

What's available

  • Guidance on what’s assessed and how the examination works.
  • The syllabus and examiner checklists, with advice on how to use them to focus your study.
  • A video from AMSA examiners explaining what to expect on the day.
  • An audio brief on what AMSA examiners are listening for during an exam.
  • Practical tips for giving clear, structured responses.

Before you book

Review the resources so you understand the assessment and what is expected of you.
