Invite AMSA to speak about port State control

Ask AMSA to participate in an international maritime conference, forum or industry event about port State control in Australia.

On this page:

What we can discuss

AMSA works with international maritime administrations and industry to share information about Australia’s approach to port State control and hear directly from stakeholders about their experiences.

Depending on the event and audience, AMSA may give a presentation, take part in a panel or discussion, answer questions or speak with participants about port State control in Australia.

Topics may include:

  • Australia's approach to port State control
  • what ships can expect when visiting Australian ports
  • common deficiencies and compliance issues
  • trends identified through port State control inspections
  • international requirements relevant to port State control.

Who can submit a request

We welcome requests from:

  • port State and flag State administrations
  • classification societies
  • maritime industry bodies and associations
  • organisations representing international shipping.

We generally prioritise events that allow us to engage with a broad section of the maritime industry.

When we may participate

We cannot attend every event and consider each request individually.

Our ability to participate will depend on:

  • the purpose and audience of the event
  • how the event relates to port State control
  • the proposed topic and format
  • timing, location and staff availability.

Where possible, we may coordinate participation with other planned international engagements.

Costs and expenses

AMSA participates in international events where the engagement supports our statutory functions and contributes to maritime safety, stakeholder engagement or the consistent application of international standards.

AMSA pays its own travel and accommodation costs and does not accept payment for these expenses.

If an organisation asks AMSA to provide a service primarily for its own benefit, such as a targeted presentation or training, charges may apply. AMSA may recover the cost of staff time under Item 12, ‘other services’, of the AMSA Fees Determination.
