Marine Order 16 implements international load line standards for regulated Australian vessels (RAVs) and foreign vessels, including marking, overloading and logbook entry requirements.

Marine order 16 (MO16) gives effect to the International Convention on Load Lines (load lines convention) and sets out the standards for vessel load lines. 

It applies to regulated Australian vessels  (RAVs) and foreign vessels operating in Australian waters.

The order covers:

  • compliance with the load lines convention
  • load line certification
  • marking of vessels
  • defining when a vessel is overloaded
  • logbook entries required for regulated Australian vessels.

For domestic commercial vessels, Marine Order 507 which outlines load line requirements under the National Law.
