Marine order 19 (MO19) gives effect to the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships (tonnage convention)  and sets out requirements for measuring and certifying vessel tonnage. It applies to regulated Australian vessels and foreign vessels operating in Australian waters.

The order covers:

  • applying for an international tonnage certificate
  • international tonnage certificate requirements and compliance with the tonnage convention for foreign vessels visiting Australian ports
  • how gross tonnage is measured depending on a vessel’s age
  • allowing prescribed Australian vessels to apply for an international tonnage certificate.
