Exercise Dumaresq was conducted in 2 phases on 12–13 June and 29–30 October 2024. It was jointly led by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Maritime Safety Queensland and Transport for NSW. The exercise marked the first coordinated response exercise involving the 3 jurisdictions and was designed to strengthen state and cross-border arrangements for responding to a level 3 maritime environmental emergency.
Participants practised strategic coordination, incident management and field responses involving marine environments, shorelines, wildlife, and hazardous and noxious substances. The exercise also tested how the National Plan capabilities (personnel and resources) could be integrated and deployed across jurisdictions. The findings and lessons identified will help strengthen future exercises and responses to maritime environmental emergencies.
