The minimum certification and qualifications required by lecturers to deliver our approved courses for the issue of an AMSA STCW Certificate. These requirements are in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping 1978, as amended (STCW).
Applicable standards
Regulation l/6 Training and Assessment, STCW Code Section A-l/6 and Section B-l/6 Guidance regarding training and assessment.
Qualifications of instructors and assessors
Qualifications of instructors and assessors are as follows:
- Appropriately qualified and experienced for the particular types and levels of training or assessment of competence of seafarers.
- Appropriate knowledge of instructional techniques, training methods and practice and knowledge and experience in assessment methods and practice. As a guide, TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor.
- Lecturers using simulators to comply with IMO Model course 6.10, Train the simulator trainers and assessors.
Where required lecturers must hold a STCW certificate issued in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping 1978, as amended.

You may continue to teach our approved courses with your current qualifications if you hold an Australian TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor.
