This advice is for ship owners, operators and masters. The Safety of Navigation Focused Inspection Campaign (FIC) will run from 1 August 2021 to 30 September 2021. The campaign will apply to foreign flagged ships and Regulated Australian Vessels (RAVs) arriving at Australian ports.

The PSL applies to vessels that have carried 10 tonnes or more of oil while operating in Australia, any time during a quarter. It helps fund the response to marine pollution incidents.
On 19 November 2020, a class 3B fishing vessel grounded on a beach after the master and two deckhands, fell asleep. The investigation identified that there was no clear procedure for standing watch. Fatigue also contributed to the poor decisions made by the crew around who was supposed to be on watch that morning.

This certificate allows you to perform the duties or functions of Watchkeeper deck officer on ships of any gross tonnage in any operating area and Able seafarer – Deck duties or functions.
