Who can request an inspection
If you operate or represent a passenger ship visiting Australia, contact us to request an inspection.
This scheduling process is for passenger ships only
Other ships may be selected for inspection through AMSA’s normal port State control process. Find out how ships are selected for inspection.
When to notify us
Notify us at least 120 days before the passenger ship arrives in Australia.
Giving us advance notice helps us plan the inspection around your preferred port and schedule, where possible, and minimise disruption to passenger operations.
How to request an inspection
When choosing your preferred inspection dates:
- choose a Monday to Friday
- avoid turnaround days.
Email psc@amsa.gov.au and include:
- ship name
- IMO number
- preferred Australian port
- preferred inspection date and time
- a second and third option.
After you submit your request
- We will consider your preferred ports and times against surveyor availability.
- We may contact you if we need to discuss other options.
- We will email you when the inspection time and location are confirmed.
If you do not request an inspection in advance
If your passenger ship is due for a port State control inspection and you have not arranged an inspection time with us, we may inspect the ship during an Australian port visit.
The inspection may occur at short notice and may not align with your preferred operating schedule.
