AMSA has arrangements in place to enable specified positions within the organisation to exercise a function, power or duty assigned to the Chief Executive Officer under marine safety and environmental protection of the sea legislation.
These standards have been compiled against the requirements of the STCW code and convention for the use of Medical Inspectors appointed by a flag Authority who are assessing an individual’s fitness to work at sea.
On 16 March 2022, a class 2B landing barge collided with a starboard channel marker. The investigation identified that the previous swing engineer did not inform the incoming engineer that the port main engine cooling water suction valve was shut. After getting underway, the engine began to overheat. This distracted the master from monitoring the vessel’s intended track. The vessel’s safety management system did not have an appropriate engineering handover procedure.
An unexpected wind-shift during parasailing operations caused 2 airborne passengers to contact the water at speed. They were recovered by the vessel and returned to shore. Both passengers later informed the operator that they had sustained injuries during the event. The owner then failed to report this as a marine incident to us.
The purpose of this marine notice is to draw attention to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Recommendations for the carriage of plastic pellets by sea in freight containers, which were released on 19 April 2024.
These fees are for certificates of competency, certificates of operation, certificates of survey, the surveyor accreditation scheme, and National Law exemptions.
Domestic commercial vessels must have the right certificates of competency to operate. Check you have the required certificates and make sure your details are up to date.
