After a number of extraordinary years which saw the National Plan responding to the Pacific Adventurer and the Montara Wellhead platform incidents, the 2010-11 financial year was a period of consolidation.

The 2011-12 financial year was another busy period for the National Plan, with two significant pollution incidents, in Christmas Island and New Zealand, as well as the completion of the National Plan/National Maritime Emergency Response Arrangements review.

The 2015-16 year has been yet another busy period for National Plan stakeholders. In July 2015 an oil spill occurred 30 nautical miles from Cape Upstart, in the Whitsunday region, which affected a number of Queensland beaches.

The 2013-14 year was noteworthy with the endorsement of the new National Plan for Maritime Environmental Emergencies by industry, state and federal governments on 5 March 2014.

This report summarises our port State control activities and reports on the performance of commercial shipping companies, flag States and Classification Societies for the 2011 calendar year.

Whilst there were no major pollution incidents during the 2012-13 financial year, in July 2012 we completed the removal of the wreck of the MV Tycoon from Flying Fish Cove, Christmas Island. The National Plan was also called upon to support state/NT agencies in responding to several minor incidents.

The 2014-15 year has been a busy one, with a focus on the development and implementation of supporting policies, guidelines and advisories, in support of the 2014 published National Plan. The 2015 annual National Plan exercise, Exercise Westwind, was a great success.
