If you hold a valid STCW certificate issued by another country and want to work on an Australian-flagged vessel, you need a certificate of recognition (CoR). In some countries this is called a recognition endorsement.

Some vessels do not have to be surveyed. Depending on the type of vessel, you may need to apply for approval to operate.

You must revalidate your STCW certificate of proficiency (CoP) or certificate of competency (CoC) every 5 years to keep it current.  The exact requirements depend on your certificate, sea service and training.
